Pieter Krop in national newspaper about higher fines for employers for violations of the Act on Employment of Foreigners
The Netherlands Labor Inspectorate (NLA) is calling for higher fines for employers who violate the Act on Employment of Foreigners (Wav). This fine is currently € 4,000 for a violation involving ‘normal’ culpability on the part of the employer and € 8,000 for intent and gross negligence. According to the Netherlands Labor Inspectorate, these fines are not deterrent enough.
The NRC newspaper devoted an article to this topic on April 30, 2024.
Pieter Krop was asked by the journalist for his opinion on this proposal. Pieter reacts and states that the proportionality must be carefully considered when imposing a fine. According to him, more distinction should be made according to the type of violation committed by the employer. Pieter: “There is a difference between employers who see it as a good trade-off and well-intentioned small companies that have made a mistake”. And according to Pieter, that difference should be clearly reflected in the new policy rules.
