New Expat Center for highly skilled migrants in Zeeland

Since 2 January 2025, highly skilled migrants and their family members can now also use a so-called expat center in Zeeland, a one-stop shop that allows them to arrange everything for their stay in the Netherlands in one visit. The initiative is a collaboration between Expat Center Zeeland, the Zeeland municipalities and the IND.

Located at the City Office (Stadskantoor) in Goes, Expat Center Zeeland joins a network of existing expat centers in the Netherlands, such as those in cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, The Hague and Eindhoven. The addition of this facility in Zeeland now simplifies the completion of the required procedures that highly skilled migrants and their family members have to go through after arriving in the Netherlands in this region as well. By combining the various municipal and IND appointments, the transition to the Netherlands becomes a clearer and faster process for both the employee and his family members and the employer. At the expat center, highly skilled migrants and their families will thus be able to register with a Zeeland municipality, obtain a Citizen Service Number (BSN), issue biometrics, collect their residence document and receive practical information about working and living in the region. This will make Zeeland as a region more attractive to highly educated international talent and allow companies in the region to make quick(er) use of their new employees.

Three-year pilot with focus on service and economy

Expat Center Zeeland is a three-year pilot testing the cooperation between the expat center, the Zeeland municipalities and the IND. The aim is to both improve services for highly skilled migrants and strengthen the business climate in Zeeland. Employers benefit directly as highly skilled migrants are more quickly employable, which has a positive effect on the regional economy.

Broader IND service point for migrants

In addition to highly skilled migrants, other migrants can also use the new expat center in Goes. This includes (regular) labor migrants, students and foreign partners of Dutch nationals. They can come here for services such as issuing biometric data and collecting residence documents, residence stickers and return visas. With this new development, employers in Zeeland can get highly skilled migrants started faster and more efficiently, contributing to smooth integration and successful cooperation within their companies. We can now also make appointments for our clients at the Expat Center Zeeland.
