Work permit for Japanese nationals reintroduced from 1 October 2016

The IND has announced that as of October 1, 2016 employers of Japanese citizens are once again required to have a work permit. This is a result of a change in the Dutch – Swiss Treaty, causing Japanese citizens to no longer fall under the scope of this treaty. It’s questionable whether or not this change is constitutional and will be upheld by the Dutch courts. However, from a practical point of view it’s very important to take measures before October 1, 2016 to ensure that Japanese employees can remain employed after October 1, 2016. Kroes Advocaten is happy to assist with any queries regarding Japanese employees.
