Dutch Government and Labour Migration
The new Dutch government between the political parties VVD and CDA states in its governmental agreement of 30 September 2010, that it will assess whether a change of the labour migration is possible and necessary. The agreement stresses that the measures will not affect the promotion of the knowledge-based economy. The Highly Skilled Migrant Program is considered of huge value, but the government will study if the Highly Skilled Migrant Program is misused. If so, an additional educational requirement can be added to the Program, which will have to be met, before a foreign worker can qualify for a residence permit to work as a highly skilled migrant.
