Netherlands passport in top 5 of most ‘valuable’ passports in the world in 2024

Each year, the firm Henley & Partner conducts the ‘Global Passport Ranking’, in which they compare 199 different passports to assess which passports allows you to visit the most countries visa-free. The ranking is done on the basis of 227 different destinations.

The Global Passport Ranking has been conducted by Henly & partners for 19 years. The Dutch passport has been consecutively in the top 5 most ‘valuable’ passports since 2021. While the Dutch passport held the fifth spot in the top 5 in 2023, it has now risen to the third sport in 2024. This means that holders of a Dutch passport have access to 192 destinations, without having to be in the possession of a valid visa (in 2023, this was 188 destinations).

The ranking is conducted on the basis of two factors:

  • The number of destinations that the holders of a specific passport can visit without having a visa; or
  • A visa or electronic travel authorization (ETA) can be issued to the passport holder upon arrival at the destination, without having to apply and be granted the visa pre-departure.

There are currently six countries that hold the number 1 spot in the ranking list. These are: France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore and Spain. Holders of the aforementioned countries have visa-free access to 194 destinations.
